I am such a nerd...I accidentally deleted your comment, Meg, and cannot figure out how to undo.

However, I will go ahead and respond as I planned to do. I think I like an open guard because of my BJJ training. Prior to putting on the kimono, I kept my guard closed when submission wrestling because I only had male training partners and was constantly getting my ass kicked. When I started to train BJJ, my instructor had us begin with the spider guard, which scared me and opened up my eyes to a new mode of attack. So, when I finally took the gi off again, I didn't want to close my guard because I felt more comfortable using a spider guard or the rubber guard (my favorite) to set up submissions. But I can definitely understand the desire to keep the guard closed.
I do get extremely annoyed, however, when I see people hold down a closed guard in tournament as a stall. I always want to yell "Open that shit up and actually do something!"The Pugilistahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02000638749835639835noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1315716024590366780.post-75506975700320637782011-12-13T01:45:31.812-08:002011-12-13T01:45:31.812-08:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Meg Smitleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00841469633117177559noreply@blogger.com
