New FighterGirls MMA gloves

It has been almost a month since I last posted and although I am mildly embarrassed, I do think I have good reason.  School has been kicking my ass; from teaching to taking class to writing my dissertation, I've spent the majority of my time lately sitting in front of the computer researching and writing.  I do have a couple of things brewing in an effort to enter the world of MMA journalism on a professional level, which is both exciting and terrifying.  In the meantime, I will be doing short posts about training, competing and of course, the upcoming Tate/Rousey battle.

How freaking sick are these?

So...I got a new pair of MMA gloves courtesy of Fighter Girls.  I am teaching a class right now on WWII and feel especially patriotic.  Every time I see the gloves, I start giggling, then sing "America!  Fuck yeah!"  Fighter Girls did a couple of new colorways, as per my suggestion in my review of their gloves (at least, I like to claim that it was my idea).

Black with a different FG logo which I really like

Easily my favorite pair.  Everyone needs three pairs of MMA gloves, right?

In a semi-amusing coincidence, I also replaced my two-year-old Triumph boxing gloves with a new pair of Rivals.  These bitches were on backorder for a month, but I waited it out, knowing they were going to be excellent.
And they are.  I have yet to spar with them since they haven't been broken in quite yet.  I will write a post later this week on how and why to break in both boxing and MMA gloves.

  1. Can not wait to read about breaking in gloves. Also I am interested in how much you love/hate your new Rival gloves - I just bought a new pair (unfortunately not Rival.)

  2. Hi Sue. I absolutely love my Rivals. I'll do a complete write-up next week, but they are exactly what I personally like in a glove. They have firm wrist support and a slightly spongy padding. I actually tried a pair of Throwdown gloves and sent them back after a couple uses. They were very poor quality.

What did you end up getting?

  3. L.A. - I purchased direct from my gym. I get why gyms brand their own stuff and sell it, but it's not always the best quality. Okay for people doing the fitness aspect of boxing/the gym, but not for competing! What do you think?

  4. Hi Sue. In my experience, the gloves branded by a particular gym are, as you mentioned, not the best quality. However, it is a hell of a money-maker for them.
I am planning to write an article on how to pick boxing gloves sometime next week. Even if people are training for fitness, wearing a quality pair of gloves is important for longevity and overall health. When it comes to performance athletes, quality gloves an absolute must.

  5. Nice gloves however its better if you mention the specs. In my opinion its far better to go on specs of mma gloves instead of their looks.

  6. I wrote a post on these exact gloves, including the specs, several months ago. This is simply the new color way sent to me by FighterGirls.
