Ronda Rousey Training Video

Love her or hate her, the girl is a champion.  This is some of the most eccentric and eclectic training I have seen in some time.  I feel so inspired to train right now, but I have to finish my term paper.

Enjoy!

Inspiration Thursday: Miesha Tate

With all the hype from Ronda Rousey's emphatic invitation to Miesha Tate to join her in the ring, it has gone unnoticed, on this blog, that Tate has been nothing short of classy.  Rather than making a snarky rejoinder, Tate quietly responded and will now fight the upstart Rousey March 3rd.

Inspiration Thursday: Boxer Queen Underwood

Photo: David Yamamoto / Special to The Star
Queen Underwood is a 5 time USA Boxing champion and 2012 Olympic hopeful.  When I first started training, Queen was one of the few women who were not just competing in boxing, but creating headlines and popularity for the sport.  Her punches are sharp and heavy, but it is her smile that resonated with me.

Cris "Cyborg" Santos Defeats Yamanaka Hiroko in 16 Seconds

Holy shit.  Everyone was talking when Ronda Rousey called out Meisha Tate in a recent interview.  Cris "Cyborg" Santos did the same thing this weekend...without words.  If Ronda continues to insist on dropping to 135 to fight Tate, it is going to reassert rumors that she is afraid to fight the Cyborg.  Hopefully, either more women will committ to the 145 weight class or Cris will somehow cut to 135.  I'm ready to see homegirl unleashed on the shit-talkers.

Inspiration Thursday: Ronda Rousey

Love her or hate her, Ronda Rousey is quickly becoming the 'face' of WMMA.  Personally, I love her.  In the short history of MMA and the longer one of Boxing, controversial fighters cause strife within the community, but ultimately promote the sport far beyond their quieter counterparts.  Is it fair?  No, but when the future of WMMA depends on sponsorship and large funds, a fighter like Rousey may save the sport from destruction.

The absolutely gorgeous Cassie Crisano

Cassie Crisano is a 145lb MMA fighter with a 1-1-1fight record.  A police officer, mother and MMA fighter, Cassie is a determined woman whose ultimate goal is to do what many fighters fear to do...fight Cris Cyborg.

Product Review: Jaco Hybrid Training Tights

http://www.jacoclothing.com/us/womens-training-tights.html
Jaco is a new MMA apparel company that has become wildly popular amongst fighters and fitness enthusiasts alike.  My husband has a pair of the Filipino flag board shorts, which he loves, so I was eager to try out their Womens apparel.  This is a review of the Hybrid compression tights and I will post a review in the future of the long-sleeved training top.

Inspiration Thursday: Girls Gone Strong

Last night it snowed nearly six inches in Denver.  While many of my friends are celebrating, this Florida native does not enjoy the blindingly white blanket of freezing misery draped across my car, sidewalk and front stoop.  Needing extra inspiration to get into the gym and train this cold Thursday, I had to call on the newly formed powerhouse of Girls Gone Strong.

Product Review: Lilac Black Football Pants

I've been eyeing these Lilac Black football pants listed on Title's website for a while now, so when I received a couple to order through their website, I was thrilled to give them a try.  I am not sure exactly why Lilac Black, a small women's sports apparel company, is sold through Title Boxing, because there is nothing particularly combative about their gear.  However, these pants were so hella cute, I couldn't resist buying a pair.

The Couple that Trains Together...

Typical L.A. and Mike pose down at the 2011 Colorado Tough Mudder

This pictures is a perfect representation of my relationship with Mike.  We met at a gym back in 2005 and the day after our first date I told my mother that I would marry him.  Within two years, we were married and a mere year after that, we owned a gym together.  Our relationship is founded on our mutual love for martial arts.  We are each others teacher, coach, student, corner-man, inspiration and training partner.

Julie Kitchen Training Video

An interesting training compilation of the "Queen of Muay Thai" Julie Kitchen preparing for her upcoming fight.

Julie is, of course, a dedicated fighter, but it is her daughter who makes this video.  Punching mama in the gut and throwing some serious round kicks.  It will be interesting to see if she maintains her love for Muay Thai beyond adolescence.
